Lemon Poppy Seed Soap Recipe

Lemon Poppy Seed Soap – 5lbs

By weight unless otherwise stated
24 oz Avocado oil
8 oz Coconut oil 76°
5 oz Palm oil
12 oz Sunflower oil
12 oz Sweet Almond oil
19oz Distilled water, by volume
8.25 oz Sodium hydroxide
2.5 oz Lemon fragrance or essential oil, by volume
½ cup Poppy seeds, by volume

Follow cold-process soap safety. Mix the lye water solution and set aside. Mix oils and heat to 110-120 degrees F. Add in lye solution and mix with stick blender. As mixture thickens, add seeds and scent at trace. Pour into mold and allow to set and cure.

The gorgeous soap shown in this picture is done by
Corabela (click here to view her Etsy shop). The recipe is not associated with the photo, but I wanted to include a nice example of an artistisan's soap..

Do you think it would be possible to swap the lemon for mint and the poppy seeds for rosemary? Also it it is possible should i use fresh or dried rosemary?

Is there a way to make this (or another) recipe without using lye or just using a different soap bar as the base? I have eczema and lye irritates my skin.

@Laura: You can't really make soap w/out lye. If you buy soap at the store, it's either made with lye or it's a lotion/detergent bar rather than a soap. The lye (in a proper soap) should disappear by the time the soap has cured, and instead of lye, it should have a healthy amount of glycerin, which is good for skin. Also, if you make the soap with shea butter, that's been shown to help eczema. Hope that all helps!
