Natural Ingredient Terms, Regulations, and Governing Bodies Explained - Part One

It seems that most aspects of bath and body care businesses must conform to various governing bodies. Rules and regulations from labeling to weighing, from advertising to conducting business within a state are all enforced by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA), the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the National Institute of Standards and Technology, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and your state, county, and city governments, just to name a few.

Natural ingredients are also regulated by governing bodies to a degree. While there are NO definitive meanings, regulations, or governances of the term natural, there are regulations when using terms such as organic or fair trade. The next few posts will explain the ins and outs of natural ingredient regulations in the simplest terms. A complete understanding of terms and regulations will help you to make the best choices for your business as well as avoid possible pitfalls in advertising your products.
