Beeswax Candles - Part 4 - Rolled Beehive Candles

Rolled Beehive Beeswax Candle

This is a variation of the tapered candle, which creates a low, thicker candle in a beehive shaped dome.

3 sheet of natural beeswax
Wick for 1 inch diameter candle, primed
Metal ruler
Knife
Cutting board

Prepare the wick by cutting a length of wicking appropriate to your candle size. Lay the sheets of beeswax on the cutting board edge to edge. Place ruler diagonally across all the sheets with one end at 3 inches in length and the opposite at 1 inch in length. Cut along the ruler with the knife. Lay the primed wick along the edge of the 3 inch side of the first beeswax sheet. Leave about ½ inch of wick protruding on one end of the sheet.

Turn the first ¼ inch of the sheet over the wick and press it down tightly all along its length. Roll the sheet up keeping it as tight as possible as you go. When the first sheet is finished rolling, add the second, butting the edges and pinching the edges to seal. When the final sheet has been rolled, press all along the end of the rolled sheet to seal the edge of the candle. This creates a beehive shaped candle.

Many variations are possible with rolled beeswax. You can cut the beeswax into shapes with a knife or cookie cutters and gently press the shapes onto completed rolled candles to create unique designs. Mix and match colors or cut sheets to varying sizes for other designs. You can even add some shimmer or glitter to the outside of the candle by rolling it or painting it with glitters.

These candles can be made in a matter of minutes giving an old fashioned touch to any room. The natural sweet honey scent of beeswax candles means you do not have to fragrance them yourself. They are truly fun and versatile.
